If you know me very well, then you will know coming to America is my favorite movie of all time, alongside with The matrix.
When I heard that a sequel was in the making last year, I literally had goosebumps.
Eddie Murphy is my favorite actor ever and anything he touches turns to Gold.
Coming to America was just supposed to feature an all-black cast when it came out in 1988 but paramount pictures insisted that a white guy should be added to the movie.
After going back and forth with it, Eddy Murphy and Arsenio Hall decided to settle for Louie Anderson, Eddie Murphy’s co-worker at McDonald’s.
The movie won several awards back then and grossed well over 222 million pounds, a record for an all-black movie that was only recently beaten Black Panther.
Over 30 years later, the sequel, Coming to America part 2 hit the shelves again, and I wasn’t disappointed.
Good heavens, the casts were off the charts and everyone brought their A-game into this movie.
Some people will argue that the barber and his friends were already Old in the first movie and had zero chance of being alive.
Truth is, I agree with them but one of the rules of writing is to break the rules if you can.
Those guys represent Prince Akeem’s guardian angels as they are always there to point him in the right direction.
So we can clearly say they are immortal casts😎
I almost went ballistic when I saw Davido perform his songs in the movie.
No, his song wasn’t used as a background song, he actually Did perform in front of one of the greatest casts of all time, he performed live 😬
Trevor Noah was exceptional in his cameo role as well as Blackson who’s short but very important appearance was extremely funny.
Oh, and Wesley Snipes is just an absolute legend. Never thought I was going to see him portray such a funny character in a movie.
When actors like Rotimi and Morgan Freeman play a cameo role in a movie, then you’ll understand the magnitude of the movie.
Attending his funeral alive was one of the high points of the movie, King Geoffrey of Zamunda was an exceptional king.
The Nigerian feel was evident in the movie as songs from Burna Boy and Tiwa savage rocked the airwaves.
There was a bit of a Dejavu as King Akeem’s Bastard son followed his father’s footsteps just to find true love.
Oh, and the castle? It belongs to Rick Ross. The dude said he cashed out massively from the movie.
Coming to America 2 will still be a big hit in the next 30 years.
The continuity is just massive and consistent.
I loved every bit of it and I urge you to watch a movie that will arouse your intellect as well as your heart.
